Seventh Annual Tulipanes Latino Art & Film Festival Set To Take The Stage
The Seventh Annual Tulipanes Latino Art & Film Festival is poised to take the stage on Labor Day Weekend, Thursday, August 30-Sunday, September 2, 2007, with a wide range of cultural representation in film, art, dance, food and music for the whole family.
"We are proud to present the seventh annual Tulipanes festival, continuing the tradition of highlighting Latinos in the arts," Tony Castillo, president of the Tulipanes Board of Directors, said. "This is made possible thanks to a wide variety of generous sponsors, especially Macatawa Bank our 2007 presenting sponsor, who have helped make the festival a reality. Our schedule features a wonderful range of award-winning films, musicians, and artists, and we invite the greater Holland community to come enjoy the weekend."
Building on the success of past year's centralized locations, Tulipanes 2007 will again feature a main stage in Centennial Park, with other activities happening within blocks at the Knickerbocker Theatre, Park Theatre, Herrick Library, Holland Armory and the Holland Area Arts Council.
The music and entertainment line-up features past favorites like Tierra and Orquestra Sensacional, and new appearances including Carman Deedy, an award-winning storyteller and author of numerous bestselling books for children.
The event kicks off on Thursday night at The Knickerbocker Theatre with a special appearance by xxx, a talented award-winning opera singer from xxxx. Friday features main stage entertainment in Centennial Park and films at a variety of venues. The evening will bring a mainstream outdoor movie to take place in Centennial Park at 9pm.
Saturday evening, the Holland Armory will featur the sounds of 7-piece salsa band Orquestra Sensacional. An informal lesson will take place at 8pm and the dance will run from 9pm to midnight. Closing the event on Sunday is a very special ecumenical and bilingual (English and Spanish) Faith and Worship Celebration featuring liturgical readings and music. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets for the service.
All Tulipanes events are free to the public and are for all ages except where noted. The Holland and West Michigan community is invited to celebrate throughout the weekend's family-friendly festivities.
Other activities include a giant piñata full of candy and prizes, a paso fino horse exhibition and plenty of ethnic food vendors at Centennial Park. Check out our full list of events.

This program is also made possible by a grant from The Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area.
