Reymundo Trujillo

Raymond Trujillo was born in the Mexican city of Miguel Aleman, located in the state of Tamaulipas, were he fist stared drawing at 5 years old. His enthusiasm for art was so tremendous  that his parents bought him coloring books and later they enrolled him in private art classes. At 8 years old, he won a drawing and painting contest at his school.  Later, he represented his school in an art competition between other schools.

Years later he earned a bachelors degree in the field of agriculture at a technical school in his town. Then he migrated to United States where he attended Edinburgh High School in Texas. While there, his teachers Rosalinda Champion and Juan Cantu gave him the guidance to develop his style, which draws on his experience as Latino immigrant, as well as develop his passion for Mexican folkloric dance. In high school Raymond received numerous awards and honors including being selected  President of the Terra Art Club, winning the title of artist of the first and second semester and artist of the year.  He also had art exhibited at the Gladys Zoo in Brownsville, Texas, and at several banks in that city.

After moving to Houston, Texas, he attend the Art Institute of Houston, where he achieved the honor list during his first semester. Before graduating with an associates in visual communications, Raymond earned a student award at an art show, worked as a illustrator and coordinator in a evangelical church creating the cover of their CDs which were  sold throughout Latin America, and  worked at a well-known newspaper in that city.

In 2006, he moved to the state of Michigan where he worked as a migrant in the fields of the greater Grand Rapids area, a city he now calls home.  Raymond maintains his Mexican roots by teaching the folkloric dances of his native country, incorporating Mexican themes in his paintings, and making presentations and exhibits in different locations around Grand Rapids.

Raymond is currently attending Grand Rapids Community College, to earn a  bachelors in fine arts. At GRCC, he was recognized twice by the school’s DISPLAY magazine, which displayed two different paintings in two consecutive editions. And last year he entered in painting in the local art festival known as ArtPrize.
